For more than 12 years now, the CEO/Director of SMMT (aka Storm Multi-Media Technologies Ltd) has scoured the Earth (OK, so maybe not the planet) to find the perfect Coffee Ranges. Why? Well, we’re glad you asked, because not many people have actually sat down or stood and asked why the 43 year-old Company Owner does what he does. So, we asked him to explain to us in his own words ‘Why?”
“My Coffee Hunting began after my Mother’s Cafe/Restaurant Business closed down from its location at the Seacroft Town Centre, Seacroft, Leeds, to make way for The Mighty Tesco Store that now stands on the site. Admittedly, I have never always liked Coffee – of any variety – as I was a Tea drinker as a teenager. The lust (as I love to call it) for Coffee came when I ordered a ‘Frothy Coffee’ and that sent the ball rolling, I guess.”
From ‘Frothy Coffee’ to cappuccino’s, the thirst for the finer tastes began to (almost) take over his life. Where most of his family and friends opted for the Tea, Soft Drinks and Hot Chocolate, Marcus chose Coffee every time.
“When my wife and I moved to Rhyl, North Wales, we would always give a daily visit to ‘Cathy’s Cafe’, almost like the Beale’s Cafe in Eastenders, except there was never any drama, except excellent tasting Coffee. When we moved back home to Leeds, the missing of these Cafe’s that were once our favoured places became absent eventually. Our favoured places for Coffee were brought to Leeds City Centre, Crossgates and, believe it or not Roundhay Park and Temple Newsome House.”
From Leeds to Wales and back again, Marcus found that out of all the Coffee Shops that provided the “Perfect Coffee” were missing something vital.
“The Coffee Shops that we visited in Leeds City Centre were just the basic places for Food & Drink, nothing like the places that we’re seeing nowadays in every town and city alike. I could mention more than a dozen Cafe’s in Leeds that you could get a great cup of Coffee, but, they are just great, not excellent. For an excellent cup of coffee you would have to look around and judge for yourself. The Veranda Coffee Shop (When the Twin Brothers owned it) gave a mighty tasty Coffee, which was made almost Perfectly with the right equipment. I mean, lets face it, if you haven’t got the right tools to make a Coffee, then its just…well, Coffee. When you have the Steamer, the Blender, the Frother and the right balance of know how, then you can boast a Perfect Cup of Coffee.”
And, so, for more than 12 years, Marcus De Storm has continued his “Great Coffee Hunt” throughout the country and further.
“When I was in Mallorca for the 1998 World Cup, I was beaten by the sun and heat and opted for the taste of Iced Latte, one of the foreign traditional drinks that have now reached across the ocean and become a big seller in the UK during the Summer time. There was the more pallet-found ‘Cafe Solo’ which I called the “Waker-Upper” because of its high infusion of “Caffeine” that helped me face the day. Then, it was a let down returning home to the UK and being served with these drinks that didn’t do the brand, the drink or the inventor any favours.”
So, the “Great Coffee Hunt” continues?
“The Great Coffee Hunt continues, yes. It is forever ongoing until I can find a “Coffee Shop” or “Cafe” that serves to me the “Perfect Coffee”, and I believe until this time my valued “Top 10 Coffee Houses” will remain as a presence on our BlogIT Site.”
